VICTORIA COMMERCIAL BANK HQ, TWO RIVERS, NAIROBI

Project Description

Inspired by the site’s unique features and the client’s desire for a landmark building, the design takes a thoughtful approach.

Two key focal points define the site: the park and the street corner. The street corner is emphasized by a massing that reaches towards the sky, while the park-facing corner dips down to create a welcoming connection. This positioning also ensures that the main office views are oriented towards the park’s tranquillity.

The building’s western facade is clad in a strategic play of materials. Opaque panels, positioned perpendicular to the harsh western sun, act as a shield, preventing excessive heat gain. In contrast, the northern and southern facades utilize transparent glass, allowing for ample, diffused natural light to fill the interior spaces. This same principle is applied to the park-facing facade, where angled horizontal opaque louver blocks the intense eastern sun while preserving clear, protected views from the offices.

The ground floor offers a vibrant mix of functions. A commercially oriented space enjoys both street and internal frontage, while an auditorium boasts scenic park views. Additionally, a flexible space dedicated to art displays fosters a connection with the park, inviting the public to engage with creativity.

Each office floor elevates the workday experience with the inclusion of a terrace garden. These verdant havens provide breakout space, allowing tenants to step outside and connect with fresh air and natural light. The plant selection is carefully considered, with a mix of ground covers and shrubs chosen for their suitability to sun exposure and wind tolerance.

The private rooftop offers a dedicated space for the directors to meet and entertain clients.
