Project Description
Kisumu’s urban grid, mirroring the sweep of the prevailing southwesterly winds off Lake Victoria, brings a sense of order to the town. We wanted our design to reflect this rigor, yet remain in harmony with the lake’s undulating shoreline.
Since a solid building mass would block this cooling breeze, we opted for a series of interconnected blocks which allows the wind to flow freely, naturally ventilating the building and reducing reliance on air conditioning. To maximize the project’s footprint and meet the brief’s space requirements, traditional green areas on the ground floor are limited. To compensate, we proposed a stunning rooftop sky garden.
This landscaped oasis will offer tenants a place to relax, entertain, and connect with nature. The green roof itself acts as a multi-functional wonder. By regulating the building’s temperature, it reduces energy consumption. The green roof also absorbs rainwater, minimizing runoff and lessening the burden on the city’s drainage system. This translates to a win-win situation for both the building’s occupants and the surrounding environment. Last but not least, the rooftop sky garden offers breathtaking views of Lake Victoria and Kisumu, creating a unique and memorable experience for tenants and visitors alike.
